COMMON QUESTIONS

Paint Protection Film FAQs.

Your questions answered on coverage, self-healing, maintenance and what to expect from a professional PPF installation.

What does paint protection film protect against?

Paint protection film creates a physical barrier over your paintwork, helping protect against stone chips, road debris and minor surface scratches. It takes the wear that would otherwise reach your paint, although no film can prevent every chip, scratch or impact.

Should I choose full front or full body protection?

Full front coverage focuses on the areas most exposed to stone chips during everyday driving. Full body coverage extends protection across the exterior paintwork. We can also tailor coverage to vulnerable areas such as lower sills and rear wheel arches, depending on your vehicle, how you use it and your priorities.

How does self-healing paint protection film work?

SunTek Ultra has a self-healing top coat that allows light surface scratches and swirl marks to recover when exposed to warmth, such as sunlight or warm water. This applies to minor marks in the film's surface, rather than deep scratches, punctures or damage that cuts through the film.

Will the film change how my paintwork looks?

SunTek Ultra gloss film is designed to preserve your paint colour while delivering a clear, high-gloss finish. For matte paintwork or a change in appearance, a matte film is also available. Although discreet, PPF is a physical layer, so edges or joins may be visible on close inspection, depending on the panel and coverage selected.

How long does paint protection film last?

SunTek Ultra is backed by a manufacturer's 10-year limited warranty, subject to its terms and care requirements. The film's condition over time also depends on exposure, vehicle use and maintenance. We'll explain the warranty and aftercare requirements for your installation.

Can paint protection film be removed?

Yes. PPF is designed to be removable and can be replaced if it becomes damaged or reaches the end of its service life. We recommend professional removal, particularly on older film or repainted panels. Paint condition and previous repairs can affect removal, so please let us know about any paintwork history before installation.

Can I combine PPF with a ceramic coating?

Yes. PPF and ceramic coatings can complement each other: the film provides physical protection, while a compatible coating adds hydrophobic properties and makes routine cleaning easier. We can recommend a combination for both the protected panels and any exposed paintwork.

How should I wash and maintain my PPF?

Wash regularly using suitable automotive products and gentle wash techniques. Avoid automatic brush washes, abrasive products and directing pressure washers closely at film edges. Remove bird droppings and other contaminants promptly. We'll provide initial settling and ongoing care instructions when you collect your vehicle.
